CNC Capabilities
At Composite Builders, our computer numeric control (CNC) capabilities are designed to deliver precision, efficiency, and versatility in manufacturing complex parts and components. Our advanced CNC machinery includes 5-axis, 4-axis, and 3-axis machines, as well as a CNC fabric cutting machine, each offering unique benefits to meet diverse project requirements.

CNC Highlights
5-Axis CNC Machining
Purpose: Allows simultaneous movement along five different axes, enabling the creation of highly intricate and complex parts. Benefits: Provides unparalleled flexibility and precision, reducing setup time and increasing overall efficiency. Ideal for aerospace components, molds, and medical devices where tight tolerances and complex geometries are critical. This machine features dual support, dual drive, a moving gantry, and a fixed table design with a standard 2,000” per minute machining speed and full 5-axis 3-D capability. It has a Z clearance of 41 inches, an X envelope of 12 feet, and a Y envelope of 10 feet. The 5-axis 15 HP short-nose spindle operates at 24,000 RPM with HSK-63F spindle taper, capable of routing and drilling with programmable feed rates and override capability. The A-axis rotates +/- 120 degrees, and the C-axis rotates +300 / -115 degrees. The dynamic automatic rotary tool changer quickly switches between 12 different tools, eliminating misfires.
3-Axis CNC Machining
Purpose: Operates along three axes (X, Y, and Z), allowing for cutting and shaping in three dimensions. Benefits: Highly capable and cost-effective for simpler geometries and parts. Ideal for basic, multi-sided parts that do not require the complexity of additional axes. This performance 3-axis vertical CNC machine provides high spindle speed and quick tool changes necessary for high-volume production and reduced cycle times. It travels on a 40” x 26” x 25” axis (X/Y/Z) and is fitted with a 30,000-RPM spindle, 20 tools side-mount tool changer, fully programmable chip auger system, rigid tapping, ISO standard G-code, 2-speed gearbox, programmable coolant nozzle, window air blast, 55-gallon coolant mist condenser, coordinate rotation and scaling, user-definable macros, spindle orientation, and wireless intuitive probing system.
4-Axis CNC Machining
Purpose: Adds a rotational axis (A-axis) to the standard three axes, allowing the cutting tool to approach the workpiece from various angles. Benefits: Enhances the machine’s ability to produce parts with cylindrical features, helical shapes, and more complex designs. Suitable for producing detailed and intricate parts with improved accuracy.
CNC Fabric Cutting Machine
Purpose: Precisely cuts fibers and core materials using advanced software and cutting technology. Benefits: Ensures accurate and consistent cuts, reducing material waste and improving production efficiency. Ideal for creating patterns and components for composite layups and other applications requiring precise fabric cutting. The Gerber Z1 Cutter is an automated mechanical, computer-controlled material cutting system with a 72” (W) x 12’ (L) conveyor table and Single Ply Fabric (SPF100) Feeder, providing an infinite length of cutting surface. The Z1 Cutter cuts fibers with accuracy and efficiency at a maximum rate of 45”/sec, with adjustable cut speed and tools according to material classifications, reducing lead time and material waste.
