Composite Builders continues to upgrade its processes in the advance composites market using flexible manufacturing technology. One of our new CNC additions is the Gerber Z1 Cutter, an industrial modular system used to optimize our technical material cutting workflow.
Computer Numerical Control (CNC) refers to the automation of machine tools. The Gerber Z1 Cutter is an automated mechanical, computer-controlled, material cutting system. With our 72”(W) X 12’(L) conveyor table and Single Ply Fabric (SPF100) Feeder, we have an infinite length of cutting surface. The Z1 Cutter cuts our fibers with accuracy and efficiency at a maximum rate of 45”/ sec. The cut speed and tools are easily adjusted according to the material classifications. With this new robotic process, we have decreased lead time and material waste.
Augmenting a mechanical cutter into our workflow improved productivity by reducing manual cutting by our skilled technicians, allowing them to focus on complex production processes. It improves our lean manufacturing systems by delivering rapid precision cuts, repeatability, and efficiency of our lamination kit sets. These advances reduced the cost to our customers while increasing delivery time of our products.
The Gerber Z1 Cutter advances our quality standards with its automated cutting precision, reliability, and data tracking. Composite Builders is ISO9001:2015 registered, our data is controlled by operating managers at aerospace standards. The Z1 Cutter enhances our tracking processes from roll batches to finished production parts. Its rapid cutting flow allows us to control critical prepreg material exposure, such as less material handling and out-of-freezer life.
